Shikai:

After releasing Shikai, two things happen with the blade. The first is that the outer edges become golden, and glows with energy. Anything touched by the golden part of the blade will be broken down into simplest form or will be transformed into basic form. As such, more powerful forms of different attacks will be brought down to base level, such as a higher level elemental skill being brought down to a basic elemental skill of the same sort. The second transformation is that at the center of the blade is a gap. This gap supports a other dimensional portal, which anything it comes into contact with will be forcefully sucked into. In this way, if the blade were to pass through something, it would be broken down into simplest form, and sucked into a dimensional hole or sorts.
