Let's get some souls

Maina: " This place gives me the creeps Koudo. It's so dark here and that eerie gray light doesn't help. "

" What do you expect? It's called the Darkness Lands for a reason and we're not here for a picnic, but for souls. "

Naina: " ... "

Koudo, Maina, and Naina, were all walking through the Darkness lands slowly, attempting to navigate the area with only the grey light leading them. Koudo, Maina, and Naina were here to find a few souls that were ripe for reaping and devouring. After their learning session with Tear, they were eager to get out there and master the things that they wanted him to teach like Soul Perception. Even though Koudo hadn't learned that, the soon the girls mastered it, the sooner they could go and learn something else. Koudo wanted something easy for a battle, something along the lines of bugs... here's hoping.

Before Koudo, a small, pudding-like creature appeared. It took the shape of some sort of gelatine... It was a Flan, and more importantly, a Dark Flan.



(Imagine that it's black.)

The Dark Flan was barely able to be seen except for its grey eyes which somehow weren't covered by the darkness. It closed it eyes and disappeared whether Koudo saw it or not.

Koudo and Maina noticed nothing. They were to busy looking to notice that there was already something around them. They had their backs turned to the general direction of the Dark Flan, and so when it's eyes were made apparent for that split second, the only person to notice it was Naina. She tugged at Koudo'd sleeve and pointed out into the darkness around them, knowing that something was out there. If only she would say something.

" What is it? See something? "

Koudo asked, turning around to face the way that Naina was pointing but he saw nothing. He looked at her, taking it as a sort of joke and shook his head.

" This isn't a time to joke around Naina, there's nothing out there. "

Maina: " Out where? "

Maina asked turning and facing the direction that her sister was pointing to. Maina knew her sister wasn't a liar and very rarely told any kind of joke so if she was pointing out into the darkness, there was something out there.

Maina: " .... I know! We can try soul perception now, since Naina says that she saw something. "

" But there was nothing out there. "

Maina: " To you there was nothing, to Naina there was and the only way to tell is by doing this. "

Maina said before talking her sister's hand and they both faced the darkness, closing their eyes and trying to see the souls around them, like they had learned from Tear. They could vividly see Koudo's soul, since they had seen it before, and they could sort of see another soul being close by... somewhere in the darkness. They just couldn't distinguish the soul like they could with Koudo's.

Maina: " There's something out there... give us a second. "

Suddenly, as the two of them were using their Soul Perception, the Dark Flan struck, shooting out a large amount of Acid very swiftly from its body, which would burn through what it touched and inflict a random status ailment to those who touched it. While they were hopefully distracted with the Acid, the Dark Flan would try to slither around the three of them undetected and back into the darkness so that it could attack again with something more powerful than that. It could here them talking, of course, and wasn't exactly that stupid.

Koudo wasn't doing anything, so when the flan attacked, it was fairly easy for him to see the attack coming. Rather than running up and blocking the girls, taking the brunt of the attack. He signed fairly quickly and fired a water fang bullet, a fairly large water fang bullet, that countered the acid, diluting it and making them both fall to the ground, not effecting the girls in the slightest. Koudo was on defense now, turning around in a circle slowly and making sure the girls were always protected.

Maina and Naina's eyes shot open and they looked in the new direction of the Dark Flan, pointing. Koudo said nothing, only walked to the girls and took their hands, turning them into their weapon forms. They had gotten a clear read on the Flan when it attacked, being able to see it's soul. Koudo cocked his arms back and threw the girls with perfect rotation aiming to slice the hiding Flan in half.

" You got a lot of nerve! "

Koudo yelled as he released the girls.

The Flan, being gelatinous, was very much immune to physical attacks. Its aqueous, amorphous form allowed it to mold and morph as it saw fit, and reform if it were to be sliced. Thus, it would be cut in half, only to reform almost instantly afterward. It conjured up some magic soon after, casting Darkra at Koudo, making a huge explosion of pure darkness in his general area trying to do some damage. The Dark Flan slithered around, trying to ensure that they couldn't target it, for it was wondering how they were able to keep track of it in this darkness.

Not being able to keep track of it himself, when he released the girls and they cut through the thing, but didn't kill it, he couldn't see it and as such when the magic was casted the only thing he could do was readjust himself and use his reflexes to move back a good distance and avoid most of the damage from the explosion. As the girls came back around he released one of them, Naina, and watched as she went back to human form and surveyed the darkness to find the flan. Maina stayed quiet, she herself couldn't cut through the flan, but Koudo was hoping to use her as a distraction from the flan.

Naina: " ... "

Naina pointed to a certain spot in the darkness, where she could see the Flan's soul and Koudo released Maina, with perfect rotation speed, flying away from the general direction that Naina was pointing. She curved around however and came from the right side, Koudo hoped that the Flan would jump to the left as he signed and released three water fang bullets from his mouth. Two of them traveling to the right side and left side of the Flan, respectively and the other one going head on, just in case the Flan tried moving forward to evade Maina coming around from the left, or the Flan stood still because it knew it couldn't be cut, or if it moved backwards to evade Maina. Either way, if it moved to either the left or the right side, or stayed where it was. It would be caught... at least Koudo hoped it would.

The Flan's initial plan was to probably dodge and attack again, but it could see perfectly in this darkness, which was something that Koudo could not. Therefore, it saw the attacks coming and rethought its plan. It compressed itself and low as it could go, almost becoming nothing but a puddle, letting the attack fly over it as it slithered toward Koudo in this form. If Koudo were to see it coming, or even one of his weapons, which it figured out were the ones telling him its location by the one next to him pointing, then it would make a Flash from its eyes that would Blind those who saw and make them lose accuracy in their attacks. Afterward, if they were caught off guard by the Flash, the Flan would try to slither under Koudo's feet and release a gaseous wave from itself that would cause him and Naina to Sleep before it continued to slither behind them, reforming to its normal size.

Maina swooped past and missed her mark completely, she came back to Koudo's hand and reformed to human form before sighing and scratching her head. She didn't see the Flan anywhere and it was clear that Koudo didn't see anything. Naina saw it however, slither closer and closer like a puddle.

Naina: " ...There. "

Both Koudo and Maina looked, Koudo signing before the Flan used it's Flash and releasing a water fang bullet right at the ground, where the Flan was. He didn't stop, he fired off two more, then three after that, before grinning and kneeling down.

" If that didn't slay the thing... I don't know what will. "

Maina: " Damn thing eluded us using the dark... next time we should just go back to the bridge. "

" But we got something out this.... Naina said her first word. "

Naina didn't say anything, she only watched to see if they defeated the Flan, she wasn't one to let her guard down as quickly as her partners.

The Flan was hit with the first water bullet, causing it to be stunned and not use its Flash ability. But it was still alive. Afterward, a few more came in its direction and it would simply be hit and destroyed by them, its body becoming a lifeless puddle. Its soul would fly upward from its body up to Koudo, worth about 5 souls.

Maina clapped her hands together and walked to the soul, Naina stepping forward to the soul as well. They both licked their lips.

Maina: " ITADAKIMASU! "

Naina: " .... Itadaki... masu... "

They both devoured the soul and felt the power surge through them. They weren't anywhere near Death Scythes, but they did feel a bit more powerful. Koudo nodded before slipping his hands in his pockets.

" Look at that, we're just getting better and better as a team. "
